Stamicarbon to revamp NFC urea plant in Iraq
Stamicarbon B.V. (Stittard, the Netherlands; www.stamicarbon.com), the Licensing and IP Center of Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. (www.mairetecnimont.com), has signed a contract with First Global Company for revamping the urea plant of State Company for Fertilizer North Area (NFC) in Iraq.
The NFC urea plant in Baiji, Iraq, was designed in 1989 as a Stamicarbon CO2-stripping plant with a capacity of 1,750 metric tons (m.t.) per day. After the revamp it will have a capacity of 2,200 m.t./d of prilled urea. Engineering work will be undertaken by First Global Company. Start-up is planned for 2015.
Besides the license and process design package for the debottlenecking Stamicarbon will also directly supply the proprietary high-pressure carbamate condenser in Safurex stainless steel. Safurex is the leading corrosion-resistant construction material for high-pressure urea equipment.
