Toyo awarded EO/EG project in Korea
Gerald Ondrey
Toyo Engineering Korea Ltd., a subsidiary of Toyo Engineering Corp. (Toyo; Chiba, Japan; www.toyo-eng.co.jp), has been awarded a contract to build ethylene oxide (EO) and ethylene glycol (EG) plant with capacities of 80,000 ton/yr EO and 205,000 ton/yr EG planned by Korea Petrochemical Ind. Co., Ltd.(KPIC), in Ulsan petrochemical complex in Korea. Toyo provides engineering, procurement and construction management based on the basic design package of Scientific Design Inc. (SD; Little Ferry, N.J.; www.scidesign.com). The mechanical completion of this plant is scheduled to be end of May, 2014.
EO is used for the production of detergents, thickeners, solvents, plastics, and EG is used as automotive antifreeze and a precursor to polyester fiber and PET. Toyo constructed 13 EO/EG plants in the world base on SD’s technology including two units in Korea. Toyo’s abundant experience of EO/EG and the trust with the client accumulated by successful project execution will lead to this award.
