Outotec to provide a renewable energy solution for a bio-ethanol facility in Iowa
Gerald Ondrey
Outotec Oyj (Espoo, Finland; www.outotec.com) has agreed with a major cellulosic ethanol producer on the design and delivery of a renewable energy solution for a bio-ethanol facility in Iowa. The order has been included in Outotec's Q4 2012 order intake and its value will not be disclosed.
The customer's bio-ethanol facility is among the first commercial-scale cellulosic bio-ethanol facilities in the U.S. It is expected to produce up to approximately 95 million liters of cellulosic bio-ethanol per year. With Outotec's fluidized-bed energy system the bio-ethanol facility will also cogenerate renewable energy of almost 80 ton/h of saturated steam which is used in the process.
Outotec's scope of delivery covers the fluidized-bed energy system technology, engineering and proprietary equipment for the boiler island from metering bin to stack, with delivery scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2014. The plant is designed to produce energy from residual cellulosic ethanol wet cake and by-products using Outotec's advanced staged gasification technology. In addition, Outotec will provide installation and start-up advisory services.
