Focus On Valves
Color indicators show when valves are open or closed
Mininert (photo, bottom left) valves for laboratory glassware and syringes offer push button operation with color coding — green to open and red to close. Valve bodies are PTFE with a stainless-steel stem. When used in laboratory glassware, these valves provide leak-tight closure with syringe access to screw-cap and crimp-top vials, test tubes, flasks and reaction chambers. When the valve is open, a needle can be inserted through the replaceable septum without exposure of the vial contents to atmosphere. Tapered and threaded models are available. — Valco Instruments Co., Houston, Tex.

Protect containers and enclosures with breather valves
Design updates in this line of two-way pressure and vacuum-relief breather valves (photo, top right) include model TA333-R, which is weather shielded for long-term-shipping or storage containers and the TA238, which has a perforated metal cover that is suitable for transit cases or other applications that do not face weather variations. Both tamper-proof models feature recessed, manual-release push buttons that equalize pressure or vacuum differentials, use corrosion-resistant materials and require no field maintenance. Model TA333-R has separate and distinct settings for pressure and vacuum relief and is suitable for container or enclosure volumes up to 33 ft3. It is supplied with a gasket, washer and hex nut. The TA238 valve can be used in applications with volumes up to 33 ft3 and is supplied with an O-ring gasket and hex nut. — AGM Container Controls, Inc., Tucson, Ariz.

Operate valves easily, and eliminate operator fatigue
Easi-Drive (photo, middle) is a portable valve-operating system for use with manual valves in situations where valve size, pressure rating or work environment would otherwise demand a dedicated actuator. This system contains three elements: drive gun, valve coupler and power pack. Adaptable to any size or type of valve, Easi-Drive is particularly useful for moving tight or partially seized valves. Three alternative power sources including pneumatic, hydraulic and electric, are available. Variable torque-adjustment capability is standard and the system is designed to automatically shut off at the preset torque limit. — Smith Flow Control, Erlanger, Ky.

Direct flow of dry materials
with these diverter valves
These pinch diverter valves (photo, top left) are built for obstruction-free flow of dry materials conveyed under pressure in dilute, semi-dense and dense-phase pneumatic systems. They can direct material to two different destinations or be set up to combine material flows from two different sources. Each valve can be configured to a specific angle of divergence or convergence and can handle pressures up to 85 psig. These valves are offered in diameters of 2–12 in. and can be furnished with flanged, plain, or grooved pipe connections with integral pressure switches that indicate flow direction. — Cyclonaire Corp., York, Nebr.

Jacketed valves maintain
fluid temperatures
Particularly suited for temperature-sensitive materials, these Custom Jacketed Sanitary Ball Valves (photo, bottom right) can maintain product temperatures by using either a heating or cooling medium. This company manufactures jacketed flushbottom, two-way and multiport-divert valves in sizes ranging from 1.5 to 4 in. The valves are designed for corrosion-resistant, sanitary applications, and are USDA (U.S. Dept. of Agriculture) approved. — Fluid Transfer, Division of Lee Industries, Inc., Philipsburg, Pa.

This pneumatically operated valve handles a variety of fluids
The Type 2712 Pneumatically Operated Globe Control Valve incorporates a self-adjusting gland tested at more that 2-million cycles. This valve handles neutral and aggressive fluids, 150-psi steam and gases up to 365°F. With a 316L, cast-stainless-steel body, the Type 2712 incorporates a parabolic plug plus a pneumatic piston actuator that permit continuous flow variation as a function of the plug position. The valve is available in sizes from 3/8 through 4 in. — Burkert, Irvine Calif.

Actuate process valves with these solenoid valves
The Valve Actuation Series (photo, left) is suited for applications in which solenoid valves actuate the movement of larger process valves to control the flow of liquids or gases. The series includes the 7300 and 2300 Lines, which are constructed of hard-coat anodized aluminum, brass (7300 Series only) and stainless steel. The valves have a pressure range of 30 to 150 psi and a temperature range of –40 to 70°C. — Parker Fluid Control Division of Parker Hannifin Corp., New Britain, Conn.

Severe-duty applications are served by these ball valves
This line of 0.5-in., trunion-style ball valves (photo, right) was designed specifically for severe-duty applications. Available in two-way and three-way configurations, these valves are rated to 10,000 psi. The two-way ball valve offers complete shut-off with a 1/4 turn, while the three-way valve requires a 1/2 turn to change port outlets. An optional diverter-style, three-way ball valve requires a 1/4 turn to change port outlets. Air actuators are available for remote control. The valves feature 316 stainless-steel construction with alternate materials of construction available. — High Pressure Equipment Co. Erie, Pa.

This bronze valve is certified
for potable water use
The BA-100/150 NSF Bronze Ball Valve is certified by Underwriter Laboratories to meet the ANSI/NSF Standard 61 for potable water. A standard feature is glass-reinforced PTFE seats for high-temperature applications. Available in sizes from 0.25–2 in., the valves come complete with a blow-out proof stem and adjustable stem gland. — Milwaukee Valve, New Berlin, Wis.

These sealless valves prevent excess system pressure
These regulating valves are designed with a tapered plunger and valve seat that are isolated by a Viton or Teflon diaphragm between the wet end of the valve and the valve top. When excess pressure overcomes the adjustable spring-pressure on the plunger, the plunger lifts off the seat, allowing fluid to bypass and reduce system pressure. The C60 Series valves (photo, left) are available in stainless steel, nickel alloy or solid brass. They provide flows from 0 to 40 gal/min and can handle pressures from 75 to 2,500 psi with fluid temperatures up to 200°F. — Hydra-Cell Industrial Pumps, Wanner Engineering Inc.,
Minneapolis, Minn.

Use these valves in a wide
range of temperatures
The new 40G Series (photo, right) of one-piece instrumentation ball valves are for use in environments where ambient temperatures fluctuate, as well as in heated-process applications with elevated process-fluid temperatures. The valves feature working pressures up to 3,000 psig and temperatures from –65 to 300°F. The encapsulated packing design and live-loaded packing system reduce the need for packing adjustment and improve thermal cycle performance, says the manufacturer. Constructed of modified PTFE, the single-piece packing does not require system pressure to seal. — Swagelok Co., Solon, Ohio

This valve is suited for
sanitary system use
The 3-A Sanitary valve is an all 316/316L stainless-steel check valve. This valve's design seals on the inner diameter of a single set of ferrules and requires no additional space in the line. The 3-A is designed to be easily disassembled and spare parts are available. A wide variety of seat materials and cracking pressure springs allow this series to be used as a check valve or a vacuum breaker. — Check-All Valve Mfg. Co., Des Moines, Iowa
