CAC wins order for Russian membrane electrolyzer
Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH (CAC; Germany; www.cac-chem.de
) has been awarded a new contract for the planning and construction of a membrane electrolysis plant by the Russian large-scale enterprise “Soda-Chlorat Ltd.”, Berezniki/Perm region. This contract follows the construction of the first membrane electrolysis on Russian territory in Sayansk for the company OAO “Sayanskchimplast”. CAC’s scope of services and supplies includes the basic and detail engineering, the supply of main equipment as well as construction supervision and assistance to the client during the commissioning phase. From the 4th quarter 2009, the new plant is to produce chlorine, hydrogen and caustic potash solution from potassium chloride (rock salt) on the basis of the membrane electrolysis. In the plant, this feedstock is further processed into the commercial products hydrochloric acid, potassium carbonate and crystalline potassium hydroxide.
